Cow and Calf Moose in GTNP

Seen early and late in the day

A Cow with a Calf is hard to beat!

Cows are usually leaner and smaller than the mature bulls. Both cows and bulls are shaggy in the spring as they shed their winter fur. Cows give birth in late May to early June. A single calf is common, but biologists are studying why there are more twins born in the Tetons than in other places.

Moose usually hang around the river bottoms and sageflats in the southern portion of the park.
